Using the Create Remote
Master Utility diskette provided by CMAX, create a set of CheckMAX Remote
Server Master diskettes. You should create the master diskettes from an existing
server that is as similar to the new server system as possible. For instance,
to install a new server to be located in Tennessee, create the master copy
set from an existing Tennessee server if possible. Also, consider the hardware
configuration. Try to match the new server with an existing one in terms of
terminals, printers, modems, etc. Refreshing and using a master copy set from
a similar system will speed the installation process on the new server.
From the main console
on the existing CheckMAX Remote Server computer, insert the Create Remote
Master Utility diskette into the floppy drive of an existing remote server.
Logon to the server
as SYSPROG and exit to a TCL prompt ('XX' from the SYSPROG Menu).
At the TCL prompt, type
T-SELECT 0 and press the enter key. Note: The 0 following T-SELECT is the
number zero.
Next, type T-ONLINE
and press the enter key.
Now type T-LOAD MD (O
followed by pressing the enter key. Note: This time the (O is the letter O,
as in Oscar.
At this point, if all
has gone well, you should see CREATE.REMOTE.MASTER and 1 ITEM LOADED' on your
screen. If not, logoff by typing OFF and pressing the enter key, and try again.
Some of the reasons why you may not have been successful to this point are
the diskette is not in the drive, the wrong diskette is in the drive, you
skipped the T-ONLINE command above, or the diskette itself is faulty. In the
latter case, call CMAX for a replacement, as needed.
After the CREATE.REMOTE.MASTER
item loads, type CREATE.REMOTE.MASTER and press the enter key to start the
master copy creation process. Follow the instructions that appear on your
screen. One final note on the master copy, as you remove diskettes from the
drive that are being produced by the utility, number them consecutively beginning
with 1. IGNORE any volume numbers or other numbers that might appear on your
screen throughout this process.
After the utility has
finished creating the master copy set, it will then prompt you to place the
first diskette of the master copy set (not the Create Remote Master Utility
diskette) back into the floppy drive in order to verify the set. As the verification
process proceeds and you are prompted to insert the next diskette of the set,
insert the next disk in sequence from the master copy set and press the letter
'C' to continue with the verification. Any errors on the set are normally
reported as 'parity error.' If you receive any parity errors, discard the
diskette on which the error occurred and start over. If you do not receive
any errors, the master copy set is good and can now be used to install a new
CheckMAX Remote Server using a serialized installation diskette provided by
CMAX.
On the new CheckMAX
Remote Server computer, you must first install the Mentor Pro 4.x Operating
Environment before loading CheckMAX. See the Mentor Pro 4.x Installation Guide
provided with your Mentor Pro 4.x software for more details.
After installing and
authorizing the Mentor Pro 4.x Operating Environment, you are ready to load
the CheckMAX Remote Server software using the Remote Server Master Copy set
of diskettes created in step 1.
From the main console
on the new CheckMAX Remote Server computer, insert the serialized installation
diskette from CMAX (the one that says INSTALL.CHECKMAX on the last line of
the installation instructions printed on the diskette). NOTE: In order to
register your software, each remote server must be loaded using the unique
CheckMAX installation diskette purchased from CMAX, Inc. You should have one
CheckMAX installation diskette, with a unique serial number, for each remote
server installed using these instructions. Any other form of installation
of a CheckMAX server requires coordination with CMAX, Inc.
Logon to the server
as SYSPROG and get to a TCL prompt. ('XX' from the SYSPROG Menu, if presented).
At the TCL prompt, type
T-SELECT 0 and press the enter key. Note: The 0 following T-SELECT is the
number zero.
Next, type T-ONLINE
and press the enter key.
Now type T-LOAD MD (O
followed by pressing the enter key. Note: This time the (O is the letter O,
as in Oscar.
At this point, if all
has gone well, you should see INSTALL.CHECKMAX and '1 ITEM LOADED' on your
screen. If not, logoff by typing OFF and pressing the enter key, and try again.
Some of the reasons why you may not have been successful to this point are
the diskette is not in the drive, the wrong diskette is in the drive, you
skipped the T-ONLINE command above, or the diskette itself is faulty. In the
latter case, call CMAX for a replacement, as needed.
After the INSTALL.CHECKMAX
item loads, type INSTALL.CHECKMAX and press the enter key to start the installation
process. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen. One final note
on the installation process, as you are prompted to insert the next diskette,
or to Load Reel #nn on LTU 0, remove the current diskette from the drive and
insert the next sequentially numbered diskette from the master copy set and
press the letter 'C' to continue. IGNORE any volume numbers or other numbers
that might appear on your screen throughout this process.
The installation process
will check for an existing copy of any of the CheckMAX Remote Server components,
and if found, will require you to delete them before continuing. If you do
not delete any existing component as prompted, the installation process will
halt.
After all of the diskettes
from the master copy set are loaded on to the new computer, the installation
utility will prompt you to enter the store number and the first work date
for the store. You may enter any store number, but the work date you enter
may not be accepted by the process if it is too far in advance from the creation
date of the installation diskette. If this is so, just enter the date suggested
by the installation. You can change the work date later using the SETUP screen
in CheckMAX after obtaining an updated registration code from CMAX.
After entering the work
date, you are given the option of clearing the User Codes file that was loaded
from the master copy. This is helpful for removing User Codes when the master
copy set is produced from a live system. To clear the User Codes file, enter
'Y' at the prompt and enter your own user code as prompted. Upon entering
your user code, the file is cleared of all other user codes except the one
you just used. This will be the only one available on the system until new
ones are sent from the host!
Before continuing with
the installation you are given the opportunity to change the store number
or work date you entered by following the on-screen instructions. When these
are correct, press 'C' to continue with the installation.
After this step completes,
the next step is installing the communications software that CheckMAX uses
to transfer files between the host and remote server. Once again you are prompted
for additional information such as the computer's model and serial number.
If you do not know the model or serial number, just enter 'tba' for the unknown
value. After entering this information The Laguna Connection software is installed
and you are presented a summary screen of that installation process. As noted
on the screen, each of the status lines should have the word 'Pass' at the
end of it. If the word 'Fail' appears on any of the lines, the communications
installation failed and the host will not be able to transfer data to and
from this server. You should contact CMAX if you have any failures in this
process.
If you have made it
this far, you are just two steps away from finishing and should have a message
on your screen that says you now need to reboot the system. Press the letter
'C' to continue and start the rebooting process. The system will execute its
shutdown procedures and then ask you the press Ctrl-Alt-Del to complete the
shutdown. What this means is that you are to press the key labeled 'Ctrl'
and hold it in, then press the key labeled 'Alt' and hold it in followed by
pressing the key labeled 'Delete' and then releasing all three. You should
receive a prompt that asks you if you want to 'R'eboot, 'P'ower down or 'I'gnore.
At this prompt, type the letter 'R' to reboot. Follow the normal Mentor Pro
4.x booting procedures to bring the system back to a logon prompt. If you
did not receive this prompt, try the Ctrl-Alt-Del sequence again.
After the system returns
to a logon prompt, the last step to complete the install process is to logon
as CKMAX. The first time you do so, a few more housekeeping tasks are automatically
executed, and then you are logged off. You should now be able to logon again
as CKMAX and receive the normal menu. Congratulations! Your system is almost
ready to go.
You now have a copy
of CheckMAX Remote Server software installed and setup for a given store,
but, as usual, when you open a new location you must provide the server with
the Store Master record and zip code for the store it is to be. The quickest,
easiest way to do this is using the T-DUMP/T-LOAD commands built in to the
operating system. Here's how:
From your host system:
Insert a blank, formatted
diskette into the floppy drive.
Logon to CKMAX, 'XX'
to a TCL prompt and execute these commands:
T-SELECT 0
T-ONLINE
T-DUMP STORE.MASTER
"nnn" (where nnn is the store number to dump)
T-DUMP ZIP.CODES "nnnnn"
(where nnnnn is the zip code assigned with the store master above)
Remove the diskette
On the new remote server:
Insert the diskette
from the host server into the floppy drive.
Logon to CKMAX, 'XX'
to a TCL prompt and execute these commands:
T-SELECT 0 -
T-ONLINE
T-LOAD STORE.MASTER
(O (that's an Oh, not zero)
T-LOAD ZIP.CODES (O
In addition to the
Store Master and Zip Codes, you can dump and load any other files you might
need to at this point, however, other files are not required and are usually
handled through a reusable movement from the host to the server after installation.
Call CMAX for more information on this one.
Other items you might
want to check out at this point can be found in the SETUP screen. This menu
is accessed from a TCL prompt by logging to CKMAX and typing 'XX' to leave
the CheckMAX Menu. Once at the TCL prompt, just type SETUP and press the enter
key. The entire setup, including all master tables such as check type codes,
payment type codes, referral codes, etc., were copied from the original system
used to create the master copy set. All store related data from the master
copy set, such as customers, checks, receipts, etc. was cleared during the
installation process on the new server.
CMAX recommends that
you test all ports (serial and parallel) on the new system before sending
it to its final destination. This can be accomplished by attaching a compatible
device to each port and verifying it is usable. For a parallel or serial printer
port, you should be able to print any of the reports in the system to the
printer connected to the port (Remember, to change your active print queue
in CheckMAX. The command is CP n, where n is the queue to change to, from
any menu prompt). For serial ports (non-printer), a terminal device connected
to the port should receive a logon prompt after pressing the enter key (as
long as the baud rate on the device matches the ports settings). If you have
trouble with any of the ports, it could be related to the user cold start.
The install process overwrites the standard user cold start with the user
cold start from the master copy set, if one exists on the master copy. If
the hardware configuration from the master copy source machine is not the
same as on the new server, conflicts probably will exist. Also note, if you
have installed a multi-port serial card in the new system, the normal 'COM
2' port on the computer is no longer operable. It must be disabled in the
computer's BIOS in order for the multi-port serial card to work correctly.
